We camped here 3 days without reservations, and got lucky since the west campground was full. There were two large groups that consumed most of the sites in the west campground, so the park opened the east campground to accommodate us and a few others. They also opened the showers and restrooms for about 10 campers. This is just an example of the service. Fort Wilkins is a historic fort adjacent to the campground free to campers. Well worth visiting. The Cooper Harbor is an interesting area with a fantastic lighthouse. Not much hiking etc. in the park. Sites are well maintained and spacing is reasonable; not overcrowded.
Nice lake side campground, although most sites are not on the lake. The sites will accommodate big rigs, but all sites are grass. It rained a lot during our visit and caused lots of ruts. The lake side sites are small and close together, but worth it for the view. The park has many activities and loads of trails for hikers. It got really warm during our visit and the flys were a tremedous pest and got in everywhere. We were told this is not uncommon in the summer. We will go back anyway.
This was an excellent campground for a National Park although not a lot of sites. Beautiful setting on Choctaw Lake with several sites adjacent to the lake. Lots of trails, fishing, small boats, and wildlife. Only one shower stall in the restrooms so timing is everything. If you are in the area it is worth your while to stop at this campground.
Quite nice campground. Older but clean. Full hookups nice since the restroom is small with only one shower. Most sites adjacent to the lake or close enough to give a sense of being by the lake. Close to City of Tupelo. Only stayed one night but wanted to stay more.
